The 6Y3224 Bucket Tooth is a classic bucket adapter for the Caterpillar (CAT) J-Series—specifically the J225 / J200 sub-series—excavator buckets. It features a classic "Twin Strap" (or Double Strap) weld-on design, engineered to be welded directly onto the cutting edge of an excavator or loader bucket. Its low-profile design effectively minimizes digging resistance, thereby enhancing the bucket's penetration capability and overall operational efficiency.

The manufacturing process for Ground Engaging Tools (G.E.T.) directly determines their service life. Currently, there are two primary production methods for the 6Y3224 adapter available on the market: precision casting and forging.
Most aftermarket spare parts currently available on the market are produced using investment casting. This process ensures extremely high dimensional accuracy, allowing the tooth adapters, teeth, and pins to fit together perfectly.
High-precision molds are used to press out wax patterns that are dimensionally identical to the 6Y3224 model. Multiple wax patterns are then welded onto a central sprue to form a "wax tree."
The surface of the wax tree is repeatedly dipped in refractory slurry and dried to form a sturdy, hard shell. Subsequently, high-temperature steam is used to melt and drain the internal wax, leaving behind a hollow mold cavity.
A precisely formulated, high-strength alloy steel (such as Chromium-Molybdenum alloy steel) is melted in an electric furnace. Once the chemical composition has been verified to meet specifications, the molten steel is poured into the preheated mold cavity.
After cooling, the outer shell is broken away, and the sprues and risers are cut off. A shot-blasting machine is used to clean the surface, followed by manual grinding to remove flash and burrs, ensuring that the nose of the tooth adapter is smooth and flat.
Whether produced via casting or forging, a raw, unfinished component that has not undergone heat treatment is akin to a sword without a sharpened edge.
a. Quenching:
The tooth adapter is heated to its austenitizing temperature and then rapidly cooled in water or oil. This process transforms the internal microstructure into martensite, significantly increasing the hardness to a range of 45–52 HRC.
b. Tempering:
This process relieves the internal stresses induced by quenching and enhances the tooth adapter's impact toughness. This ensures that the component remains "hard yet not brittle"—preventing fracture—when subjected to powerful impacts against rock and other hard materials.
If you need to introduce this product to customers, you can emphasize the following three points:
4.1 High Penetration and Low Energy Consumption: Featuring a dual-lip, low-profile, and streamlined design, the product cuts into soil and gravel more smoothly, effectively reducing fuel consumption for excavators.
4.2 Superior Wear Resistance: Through a rigorous alloy composition and advanced heat treatment process, the product achieves a high degree of consistency between its core hardness and surface hardness, resulting in a service life that is twice as long as that of ordinary carbon steel.
4.3 Exceptional Fit Accuracy: Critical interface dimensions—such as the ears and pinholes used for mounting bucket teeth—undergo rigorous gauge inspection. This ensures smooth installation and removal during field replacements, guaranteeing a secure, wobble-free fit.
