I. Product Overview

The 6Y3222 (or 6Y-3222) is a standard "Long" series bucket tooth designed for Caterpillar equipment within the J225 series. Specifically engineered for heavy machinery such as excavators and loaders, it is primarily used for digging hard soil, gravel, or sand, effectively enhancing excavation efficiency and extending the equipment's service life.

1. Basic Technical Specifications

OE Part Number:6Y3222 / 6Y-3222
Applicable Series:Caterpillar J225 Series
Tooth Profile Design: Long Tooth (Standard Long Profile)
Matching Parts:Compatible with J225 adapters (e.g., 6Y3224); requires the use of a 6Y3228 Pin and an 8E6259 Retainer.
Common Applications: Widely used on CAT 311, 312, 320, and similar excavators, as well as small wheel loaders, for general-purpose excavation tasks.

2. Tooth Profile Features and Application Advantages

The "Long" tooth is the most widely utilized and classic profile among G.E.T. (Ground Engaging Tools).

Perfect Balance: It achieves an excellent balance between penetration capability and the volume of wear-resistant material.

High Versatility: Suitable for light-to-medium-duty excavation environments, such as general earthmoving, gravel, loose shale, etc. Compared to specialized "Chisel" teeth or "Heavy Duty" teeth, the "Long" tooth offers the best cost-performance ratio for end-users and is the most readily available in stock.

II. Premium Investment Casting Process

1. Precision Wax Pattern Molding (Wax Injection): Ensures zero dimensional error.

High-precision metal molds with superior surface finishes are utilized to inject and form the wax patterns for the 6Y3222 tooth. Precision molds are utilized to perfectly replicate the standard internal cavity of the Cat J225 series, ensuring a tight, flush fit between the bucket tooth and the adapter during assembly, thereby eliminating the risk of side pin breakage caused by looseness or vibration.

2. Assembly and Shell Building: High-Standard Refractory Materials.

Wax patterns are welded onto a central sprue to form a "wax tree." This assembly is then subjected to a repetitive, alternating process of dipping into a polymer-based refractory slurry and coating with refractory sand. After multiple cycles of controlled-temperature drying, a dense, robust ceramic shell is formed around the wax patterns.

3. Dewaxing and Roasting: Creating the Hollow Mold.

High-temperature steam is used to completely melt and drain the wax from within the ceramic shell (the "lost-wax" process). The hollow shell is then transferred to a roasting furnace for high-temperature sintering—exceeding 1000°C—to enhance the shell's structural strength and eliminate any residual moisture.

4. Intermediate Frequency Furnace Refining and Pouring: Strict Control of Alloy Composition.

In an intermediate frequency induction furnace, a precise blend of low-alloy wear-resistant steel is formulated (rich in alloying elements such as Cr, Mn, Mo, and V, which enhance both wear resistance and toughness). Once the molten steel has passed rigorous testing via a furnace-side direct-reading spectrometer, it is immediately poured into the preheated ceramic shells.

5. Post-Processing and Shot Blasting: Flawless Metal Finish.

After cooling, the ceramic shells are broken away, and the gating and riser systems are removed. An automated shot blasting machine is then employed to strip away surface scale and oxidation, leaving the bucket tooth with a high-quality, smooth metal finish that facilitates the clear casting of your brand logo or the specific part number (e.g., 6Y3222).

6. Heat Treatment – Quenching and Tempering:

The Core Step for Hardness and Toughness. This is the critical stage that ultimately determines the service life of the bucket tooth. The entire tooth is placed into a heat treatment furnace to undergo a precise quenching and tempering process, transforming its internal metallographic structure into a fine-grained martensite matrix.

Quality Commitment (Our Quality Control Standards)

  1. Hardness Range: The overall hardness achieves a level of 48–52 HRC, ensuring an exceptionally long service life and superior wear resistance, even under the most extreme friction-intensive operating conditions.

  2. Impact Toughness: >20J (at ambient or low temperatures), ensuring that when the bucket tooth strikes granite or hard soil, it "wears down but does not break."

III. Why Choose Investment Cast Bucket Teeth Over Traditional Sand-Cast Teeth?

  • Appearance and Brand Image: Bucket teeth—such as the 6Y3222 model—produced via the investment casting process feature smooth surfaces and sharp contours, free from defects such as porosity, sand inclusions, or severe burrs.

  • Internal Cavity Dimensional Consistency: The internal cavities of sand-cast bucket teeth are prone to deformation, which can prevent buyers from installing them correctly or lead to loosening during operation.

  • Lower Total Cost of Ownership: Although the unit price of investment-cast bucket teeth is slightly higher than that of standard sand-cast teeth, the inclusion of premium alloys and more uniform heat treatment results in a service life typically 1.3 to 1.5 times longer than that of standard sand-cast parts. This helps end-user fleets minimize downtime associated with replacements.
